The Public Policy Analysis Track

GOAL
Public policy is an attempt by the government (city, state, or federal) to address a public issue.  Issues might involve areas such as families, education, justice, jobs, poverty, or education (in the U.S. and/or elsewhere).  Sociologists who analyze public policy make a difference through research and evaluation to find strategies that work to put these policies into effect.  Washington D.C. is an excellent location for studying public policy.

ORIENTATION
The public policy track is organized following an interdisciplinary, comparative approach to the study of public policy-making --- the problems, players, and policy.  The focus is on providing skills to define, measure, evaluate, and research policy problems.  Students are expected to intern with one of the policy making organizations in Washington D.C. in their effort to develop, evaluate, and implement solutions to public issues.
